In our previous posts, we discussed why Ayurveda stresses so much on eating right and at a fixed time. But what should be eaten? What is the right kind of diet as per Ayurveda? Let’s focus on that now.
Just like each one of us has a unique face and personality, we also have our personal preferences and likes and dislikes when it comes to food. Ayurveda also respects that. The ancient healing and wellness science divides food into three categories based on their qualities - Sattvik, Rajasic and Tamasic… eating a particular food can enhance or decrease a certain quality of the mind and affect our body accordingly.
Here is what Ayurveda considers as good for our bodies:
While fruits and vegetables are good for us, we should ensure that we stick to seasonal ones and not those which are chemically ripened or canned. They should be free from pesticides, insecticides as well as other chemical additives.
Also, when it comes to right food and diet, the three Doshas have a role to play. Customizing our food according to our predominant humor or Dosha can go a long way in ensuring that we remain healthy.

Also, one should not forget that along with what we eat, drinking enough water to stay hydrated is also vital. Apart from all this, we should also take care not to combine foods that are incompatible with each other, as well as keep food allergies in mind.
So when it comes to the right food to eat, there is no better and easier guideline to follow than one as per your predominant Dosha. Incorporating as many Sattvik foods in the diet as you can will also make you feel and think better.
Stay tuned as next up we will talk about the right quantity of food for your body.
